Social Media Specialist/Health Educator

A comprehensive human service agency that provides a broad range of services that meet the diverse, multi-dimensional needs of individuals and families throughout Central Maryland, has an immediate opening in the Prevention Education department for a Full-time Social Media Specialist/Health Educator.  This Specialist is responsible for the delivery of digital and in-person forms of community education and awareness in the areas of addictions, substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, body image and the other behavioral health issues that impact the mental health and well-being of the community.  Supervised by the Manager of Prevention Education, the Specialist will focus on online projects focused primarily on young adult engagement with health information subject matter, with the goal of peer to peer sharing of accurate health messages. In person programs will address the healthy decision-making needs of the broad range of ages and formats.


  • Develop, coordinate, and host all aspects of online outreach and social media marketing to college age, young adult The Mental Well website and other companion online media
  • Lead the effort in The Mental Well adapting to a more mobile digital audience
  • Support the maintenance and updating of content for Prevention/Education pages of the agency website
  • Facilitate educational group experiences for adults, parents, and children of various ages
  • Implement and participate in the creation and development of new community-based integrative programming and curriculum related to substance abuse and other risky behavior, sexuality, resiliency, self-esteem, body image, personal responsibility, and communication
  • Promotes programming and involved in marketing efforts
  • Work collaboratively with Jewish clergy, congregational principals, day schools, public and private school administration and other community providers in implementation of programs
  • Acts as a resource and referral agent for the community regarding prevention education materials, programs, and resources, both within and outside of the Jewish community
  • Identify resource and collaborative opportunities to further address community need
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree, preferably in the field of human services, from an accredited institution
  • Excellent skills with online mediums, experience in working with video
  • Understanding young adult culture and networks, familiarity with campus life
  • Ability to effectively work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to multi-task and work with multiple entries congruently
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills to include Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Effectively analyze the target market and successfully promote programs
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to Jewish traditions, culture, and values
