Senior Accountant/Controller-FT

A full-service, property management company which handles residential and commercial properties across the Greater Baltimore and Maryland area is seeking a Full-time Senior Accountant/Controller. Leads the accounting group in applying generally accepted accounting principles to analyze financial information; help with the company’s financial growth and cost cutting, reconcile financial statements, prepare general and standard journal entries, assist in budget development, and prepare standard accounting and financial reports for management.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute general ledger account reconciliations, accurate reporting, and data verification, enabling senior staff to analyze options and make financial decisions aligned with company objectives.
  • Establishes annual goals and objectives for the accounting team, establishes workflows and assigns properties and portfolios for effective and efficient completion of tasks, and implements process and procedural improvements to streamline work, increase productivity, and maintain service and quality excellence.
  • Support timely monthly and year-end financial close, including assigned journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations, accruals, and overall maintenance of all operational management accounts.
  • Coordinates the company’s financial planning, budgeting, and critical financial decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with all debt agreements and covenants, report compliance to banking institutions.
  • Reviews financial details from historical, current, and forecasted operations; identifies development opportunities and improvements that can be made and determine ways to reduce costs.
  • Provides management with short- and long-term financial objectives and policies.
  • Contract negotiations to ensure the organization is adhering to budget constraints.
  • Responsible for preparation of monthly financial reports for both clients and JBZ Management.
  • Collaborates with external auditors, including tax accountants, to provide the information needed for the annual audit, filing, and other financial-related matters.
  • Oversees and reviews the production of monthly financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting.
  • Understand the financials of a company to meet legal requirements and keep the financial state in good standing.
  • Approves budget, revenue, expense, payroll entries, invoices, mortgage payments and distributions, and other accounting documents and researches and resolves discrepancies, as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as needed during business.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science, Accounting or equivalent
  • 5+ years or more of related experience required
  • Experience in multi-family property accounting required
  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred
  • Proficient with property management software. AppFolio preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
  • Strategic thinker; Up-to-Date technology expertise; Excellent communication skills; Ambitious self-starter; Customer service oriented; Ability to develop and execute strategies; Expert analytical skills
