Moving & Storage Specialist-FT

One of the nation’s top 100 public universities, located north of Baltimore, is seeking a Full-time Moving & Storage Specialist to perform activities related to the moving and storage operations, including relocation and storage of property, equipment, and supplies.


  • Distributes, relocates, and stores property, equipment, and supplies.
  • Prepares office furniture and equipment for moving and storage.
  • Determines resources needed and property prepares fragile and/or valuable assets for moving, requires occasional transport of items to or from off-campus, such as delivery/pickup of donations, delivery/pickup of artwork, deliver scrap metal for sale.
  • Determines appropriate storage and location of property and equipment considering weight limits and required space.
  • Performs minor assembly and disassembly of furniture and equipment in preparation for movement and/or storage.
  • Keeps records, Materiel Management Services Requests (MMSR) pertinent to moving and storage operations.
  • Documents and records, files verify accuracy (e.g., property tag numbers) of all information, obtain signatures and file documents.
  • Keeps department storage facilities clean and orderly.
  • Performs vehicle operational readiness checks and cleans vehicles.
  • Assist other departments with the delivery of items and equipment from different locations on and off campus.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or department head.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High School diploma with two years related work experience.
  • Skill in operating warehouse material handling equipment; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.  Ability to lead and train others in packing and moving furnishings, materials, and equipment; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to follow directions; to read, comprehend and apply OSHA/MOSHA requirements; to perform extensive standing, walking, climbing and frequent heavy lifting; to wear and work in personal protective equipment.
  • Able to utilize email, internal internet usage for timekeeping.
  • Specialized machinery/equipment utilized: straight truck, box truck, forklift, lift gates, pallet jacks and other material handling equipment.
  • Must be able to lift to 50 lbs. on feet for long periods of time; perform extensive standing, walking, climbing and frequent heavy lifting or otherwise moving up to 70 lbs.
  • Candidates selected for employment may be subject to medical inquiries and/or medical examinations to determine ability to perform the job.  Valid Maryland Non-Commercial Class C or Commercial Class B or equivalent driver’s license may be required.  If required to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License, employees will be subjected to drug and alcohol education and testing as required under Federal Highway Administration and the State of Maryland regulations.

Pay: $34,977/year
