A non-profit supporting persons with disabilities in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, is seeking a Full-time Job Coach/Career Coach for its Workforce Development department to join its team and be responsible for supporting individuals with disabilities in competitive, integrated employment to ensure their success and/or advancement in their place of employment. Career Coaches use a person-centered approach to provide the appropriate level of support for each individual, including but not limited to on-site training and coaching, developing natural supports within the workplace, and using technology to remotely work on skill-building and/or coping and self-advocacy skills. This position represents OBI in the business community on a regular basis and must communicate in a professional manner both verbally and in writing. This is a remote position that is expected to spend significant time in the community supporting individuals we work with, their families, and the businesses who hire them. This position requires the ability to adjust one’s schedule to meet the immediate needs for those we support and may require occasional evening/weekend hours.
- Support individuals placed in competitive integrated employment to be successful in their current jobs and/or through career advancement.
- Provide quality job support, beginning with pre-employment obligations (new hire screening, paperwork, required trainings, orientation, etc.) and throughout the duration of employment.
- Remain knowledgeable about relevant assistive technology and reasonable accommodations that may assist individuals with disabilities in the workplace and discuss with individuals supported and/or employers as appropriate.
- Observe, report, document, and provide corrective guidance and solutions to challenges and issues that arise in the workplace.
- Facilitate positive relationships between the individual we support and their coworkers and supervisors.
- Look for opportunities to develop natural supports within the workplace, and establish such relationships whenever possible, to increase independence and decrease dependence on paid staff support.
- Communicate effectively to the individual’s entire Person-Centered Planning (PCP) team regarding the needs of the employer and the individual being supported.
- Verify work schedule/attendance on a regular basis for each individual on caseload.
- Complete all monthly support visits for individuals on caseload to meet the requirements outlined in each individual’s PCP.
- Enter service logs into company’s client management software system (Twinsis) on a daily basis.
- Maintain accurate records of individuals’ employment details such as pay rate, benefits offered, supervisory information, etc.
- Maintain compliance with all company, DDA, OHCQ, and DORS policies and regulations at all times.
- Actively participate in regular meetings with the Workforce Development team.
- Driving your own personal vehicle and/or an agency vehicle to provide community and/or employment transportation to the participants.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities; strong preference to candidates having specific experience in vocational rehabilitation, employment services, sales, or human resources.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
- Valid Driver’s license, clean driving record and 3+ years driving experience.
- Must possess a vehicle that will pass company’s transportation safety check as well as proper insurance coverage of vehicle.
- Ability to perform and meet job and physical requirements.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and a broad understanding of (or ability to learn about) technology that supports virtual service delivery.
Pay: DO; $18.25-$19.50/hour
