A public medical school located in Maryland, which is one of the fasting growing, top-tier biomedical research enterprises in the world, is seeking a Full-time Financial Manager for its Department of Radiation Oncology. Under the general supervision and direction of departmental leadership, performs and oversees accounting and financial reporting activities. Represents the department in financial matters, as necessary. Reviews accounting procedures and makes recommendations to increase effectiveness and accuracy. May oversee, direct, or perform financial functions such as payroll, general ledger, accounts receivable or payable, contracts or other related financial functions.
Essential Functions:
- Manages and coordinates the finance staff to ensure timely delivery of various financial reports to include regularly issued statements.
- Prepares and reviews quarterly MSP Report submissions for department to ensure consistent and accurate reporting of the assessments to the School of Medicine.
- Responds to financial and MSP report requests from Chair, Executive Director, School of Medicine, FPI and other outside parties as appropriate.
- Develops, implements, maintains, and questions existing accounting policies and procedures.
- Thoroughly reviews financial statements and balance sheet account reconciliations to ensure accuracy.
- Creates, analyzes, and reports upon various departmental financial information.
- Monitors internal control processes and makes recommendations on changes or alterations.
- Compile the annual external audit package including all supporting schedules in a timely manner and ensures accurate and timely audit completion.
- Prepares and/or reviews all tax reports and ensures filing deadlines are met.
- Attends a variety of meetings with management and department staff to review and discuss financial matters.
- Participates in development of department objectives and management of staff.
- Assists with the selection and training and performance evaluation of assigned staff. Recommends merit increases, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
- Maintains strictest confidentiality.
- Participates in professional development activities.
- Compile data requested by various campus audits in a timely manner.
- Provides actual to budget variation explanations in a timely manner.
- Cohesively work with the budget team to ensure consistency in actual and budget reporting.
- Completes mandatory employee health, workers compensation, HR processes, and other training and requirements in required time frame to ensure compliance with all FPI rules and regulations.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field from four-year college or university.
- Five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- CPA preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to clearly communicate and apply policies and principles to solve every-day problems and deal with a variety of situations.
