Director of HR-FT

A leading firm with five unique divisions that support foodservice and facilities clients throughout the Mid-Atlantic region is seeking a Director of HR to join its team. Administers the human resources policies, procedures, and programs for the company. Carries out the responsibilities of the Human Resource Information System (HRIS), on boarding new employees, terminations, employee relations, training and development, benefit enrollments/terminations, COBRA, compensation, and organizational development. Processes and handle payroll and adjustments to payroll and monitor leave accruals.  Maintain all union and non-union records, audit billings and prepare for necessary periodic audits.  Maintain all Unemployment, workers’ compensation, OSHA & EEO records and reporting requirements.  Process & maintain all medical, disability & FMLA requests. Maintain building access security system.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage human resource documentation and employee records within the Human Resource Information System for the company. Process all new hires and terminations.
  • Maintains employee-related data bases. Prepares and analyzes reports that are necessary to carry out the functions of the department and company.
  • Prepares periodic reports for management as necessary or requested.
  • Maintain the company handbook and procedural manuals in a current and up to date format as a tool for the management and employees of the company.
  • Assist in the development and administration of programs, procedures, and guidelines to help align the workforce with the strategic goals of the company.
  • Assists with the establishment and utilization of in-house training systems to address strategic needs, employee on-boarding, management development, and the measurement of impact.
  • Provide necessary educational materials to managers and employees including workshops, manuals, , and standardized reports.
  • Recommends employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer- employee relationship and promote a high level of employee morale and motivation.
  • Advises managers and supervisors about the steps in the company discipline system, and counsels managers on employee/employment issues.
  • Perform recruiting duties for identified personnel needs and assist with the interview process.
  • Ensure that prospective employees have completed backgrounds and drug screens and see that all required documentation is completed for each new hire.  Review with the hiring manager any areas needing further clarification or training.
  • Administer the company benefit programs ensuring enrollments and terminations are handled timely and COBRA procedures completed for terminating employees. Keep Union Health & Welfare updated for union staff members.  Audit monthly bills for all benefit plans, union dues, etc.
  • Ensure employee terminations are processed properly by terminating building access and see that managers have received all company property back that was issued. Perform exit interviews with employees who are terminating.
  • Process all liens, support orders, miscellaneous deduction etc. into payroll system and input bi-weekly data to transmit payroll via outside provider after time & attendance punches have been reviewed/edited by respective managers.
  • Maintain the building security access system issuing proper access card levels and door accesses are assigned and deactivating at termination.
  • Prepare for and be available for periodic audits of workers’ compensation, 401k plan, Union Health & Welfare etc.
  • Maintain all workers’ compensation, disability, FMLA and general medical files/records.  Maintain all unemployment, OSHA and EEO records and do annual filings as required.  Attend unemployment hearings as necessary.

Qualifications:

Education, Certificates, Licenses, & Registrations:

Bachelor’s Degree in HR Management/ Organization Management or related SPHR certification. (Senior Professional in Human Resources). Certifications/Continuing Education: Member of Society of Human Resource Management

Experience:

At least 5 years’ HR generalist experience.  Knowledge of labor laws and union interaction.  Must have experience working with all levels of people from entry level employees to C-level executives.  Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of programs.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents in English.  Ability to read and comprehend instructions and memos as well as teach and train staff based upon information acquired.  Ability to write instructions, memos, and other communications both internal and external to the company.

Reasoning Ability:

Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists using independent judgment and discretion and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.  Must be able to understand and apply all instructions and be able to prepare and understand budgets, schedules, legal requirements, or local laws.  Must have the ability to understand and maintain the confidential nature of much of the work done in this position and be professional and discrete in determining what information to provide to others both inside and outside the company.
